Exclusive Interview: Taylor Nelms (Rebirth)

How did you get attached to REBIRTH?

Roger Conners and I had become familiar with each other through the film scene in Cleveland! He reached out while developing the script for Rebirth and I could not hold back my excitement!

Tell us a little bit about your character?

I like to think of Judy as the typical strong woman backing up her boyfriend, Ben. Through the beginning of the script she brings a sense of codependency however, as the story continues you watch her grow into someone who is really just trying to protect Ben at all costs, even when he chooses to go out and face the terror they have been hiding from. Without Ben, she would be lost. Without her to look forward to, Ben would lose his will to continue.

How was it working with the director, Roger Conners?

Any set you get on will absolutely have stressful moments, working with Roger, he tries to take the stress off of everyone else. He continues to show the film community that this is not only a job/project, it’s his passion. He cares for the story, the actors, the crew, anyone who sets foot on his set. I could not have asked for a better team leader.

What was your favorite scene?

*SPOILER* In Judy’s last moments she watches as the man she did her best to protect and keep out of harms way, dies. This is a turning point for her as it causes her to throw everything she had cared for out the window as she runs to him, knowing she won’t make it. She had lost her other half.

What was the most difficult aspect to making this film?

Continuity! With a zombie film you have to make sure all of your special effects work for the scene and continue to progress with the attacks. Keeping up with every bite wound and placement was definitely challenging!

What do you think makes this film stand out?

Rebirth brings new issues to an old story. The challenges of religion, racism, and homophobia are all addressed in new ways. Living in today’s day and age people are dying for just being themselves, this brings attention to the fact that though each person in the house is different, they are all in the same place with the same problem. Just like that, they all are equal. No matter what their views or choices are.

What is your favorite horror movie?

Killer Klowns from Outer Space! An amazing horror comedy with great effects for its time!

What made you want to get into acting?

I began acting in middle school to counteract the bullying I endured. It became a passion of mine to be a part of creating something, whether it was acting or modeling.

Who inspires your creativity?

The world. Anyone can create art, and leave a piece of themselves with it. The things I help create will last longer than my lifetime, and a piece of me lives on with them!

What's next for Taylor Nelms?

After filming, I settled down. I’m now a mother of two beautiful kids. I continue to create and film when I can. Don’t worry, this isn’t the last you’ve seen of me!
